What you can do
Can you be in Darwin at lunchtime on Tuesday 18 October?
Territorians are coming together at NT Parliament House to mark the first sitting day of our new NT Government. Everyone is invited to join in on the steps of NT Parliament at 12 NOON for this half hour event.
Right now, the oil and gas lobby is circling NT politicians and Government Departments for the right to frack the Territory. So we need to remind our elected leaders that we voted them in to stick to their promise to protect the Territory’s land, water and community from dangerous unconventional fracking gasfields.
Other things you can do:
Explain fracking to your family, colleagues and community using this beautifully illustrated, introductory Fracking Flip-book, which you can download, print out and share.
Want more information about fracking impacts? Download this referenced fact sheet about Shale gas in the NT.
You can show your opposition to fracking by putting up signs and stickers on your car and gate! Put in an order for a Lock the Gate or No Fracking yellow triangle signs here.
What about hosting a screening of the Lock The Gate film, Fractured Country – an unconventional invasion? The fantastic, groundbreaking film is available on YouTube or we can post a DVD to you. Get in touch with us for help organising your local event.
Why not join your local community group who are working together to stop fracking in the NT? You can find out all the contact details on our communities in action page.
If there is no group in your local area you can raise awareness about fracking by organising a stall at your local market with fact sheets and flyers to help spread the word. If there is an event coming up in your community and you would like to have a stall, let us know – we can send you everything you need and we may even have supporters nearby who want to help out!
Make sure your local council is aware and involved. The Lock the Gate website also has good information about working with local councils.
Does your community want to go gasfield-free? Find out about the grassroots Gasfield Free Community Strategy. Watch the video, get inspired then get in touch for help kicking this campaign off in your area.
